India Tribes You Need To Know About

India is a diversified country. Its rich heritage and culture bring it together. Keeping everything aside, the Adivasi janta of the country contributes a major part in every possible manner. Their lifestyle is completely different from the modern world. They live along with nature and for nature.  Let’s get to know these tribes further.

GOND TRIBE

The majority is found in Madhya Pradesh, eastern Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Odisha. These tribal people have their symbol for the Sun, Moon, the Milky Way, and other stars. Most of the Gond people follow Hindu rituals. Many of them also worship Ravana, whom they consider their tenth dharamguru.

BHIL TRIBE

While traveling from the Rajasthan Aravali hills, it is of no surprise to spot Bhil people doing their daily chores. They are also found in districts of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Tripura, and Maharashtra. The famous Ghoomar Dance belongs to this particular tribe.

SANTHAL TRIBE

West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, and Assam is the home place for Santhals. These are the third largest tribe in India. Dancing is one activity that is in their blood. The Santhal’s revolve around the forest where they reside. Their main occupation is farming and vegetation.

KHASI TRIBE

Khasi Tribe resides in different parts of the country. The earliest migrants came from Myanmar and later resided in Assam. One major thing that distinguishes this tribe from other tribes is that the decedents of the Khasi tribe are known from their mother’s name and not by their father’s name. Their life is full of music and musical instruments.

GARO TRIBE

Garo’s are indigenous Tibeto-Burman ethnic group from Indian subcontinents. They are the second-largest tribe in Meghalaya. A large part of this community follows Christianity. The Garo had the reputation of being fierce head-hunters. The social status of the men was decided by the counts of the head he had. Their languages and cultures were not written down. They are orally passed on.

IRULAS TRIBE

The tribe people are expert snake and rat catchers making a majority of living in Tamil Nadu. They have been saving a life for years. Moreover, they are the second-largest tribe in Kerala and seen in the districts of Palakkad. They are largely dependent on agricultural products like rice, paddy, dhal, jaggery, etc.

These are a few tribes in India. Every trial community has its own story to tell. They have their history to sew and their own culture to pass on.
