Beads are arranged in a manner that suits the customs, status and modes of particular tribes. They ornament decorated collars and are used as leg ornaments or button fasteners, for neckpieces, hair decorations, ear rings, armlets , belts, aprons, headdresses, on clothing and for animal trapping. Different beads are associated with different deities, from the hard carnelian stone preffered by the Nagas to seeds, berries, fruit, nuts and dried plant stems that possess special colours, shapes, surfaces, patterns and hardness. Glass beads may be large or small, with preferences shown by particular tribes for special colours, shape and sizes.
