Under the aegis of the PMO, TRIFED in collaboration with LBSNAA, Ministry of Culture, Ministry of Textile & Ministry of External Affairs is promoting and marketing Geographical Indication (GI) of tribal origin and aiming to transform them into a brand which symbolizes empowerment of tribal artisans. TRIFED is relentlessly working towards the development of Tribal brothers and sisters of our country through mobilization of Tribals as Self Help Group based Micro enterprises, training and capacity building to promote entrepreneurship, commercialization of R&D outputs for better market positioning, branding and packaging for better marketability,  financial support for procurement of equipment and other costs involved in tribal start-ups, and accessibility to domestic and international markets.

TRIFED markets 66 GI Tagged items through its brand Tribes India both from 147 Tribes India outlets and E-Commerce platforms.

TRIFED’s 14 Regional Offices has received 82 Authorised User (AU) status for 57 GI tagged products/items.

GI Mahotsav

TRIFED’s maiden initiative of organising GI Mahotsav at LBSNAA Mussoorie was inaugurated by Shri Arjun Munda, Hon’ble Minister for Tribal Affairs in the presence of Shri Bhaskar Khulbe, Advisor to the Prime Minister of India, Shri Sanjeev Chopra, Director, LBSNAA, Shri Pravir Krishna, Managing Director, TRIFED and Dr. Rajni Kant, Advisor, TRIFED. More than 190 IAS Officer-Trainees and over 30 faculty members of LBSNAA attended this exhibition and appreciated the displayed products. The Tribes India GI Mahotsav – Invaluable Treasures of Incredible India exhibited of GI tagged products and more than 40 GI registered proprietors and GI authorised users and tribal artisans.
